ExCET Coordination

Purpose

Texas law requires every person seeking educator certification to perform satisfactorily on comprehensive examinations. The purpose of these examinations is to ensure that each educator has the necessary content and professional knowledge to perform satisfactorily in Texas public schools. The new Texas examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) were developed in 2000 for this purpose.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) are responsible for educator certification in Texas.  The TExES, ExCET, TOPT, TExMAT are one component of the certification process.

Our office coordinates the approval process for students to take ExCET, TExES, TOPT and TExMAT examinations for educator certification.
