How do I know if I am approved to take a test?

Once your approval has been forwarded to SBEC, the ExCET Coordination Office will send you the TExES Registration Information via email.

How come the test site I wanted did not show up?

When there are no more seats available at a test site, that site will not appear as a choice.

What if my last name has changed from the last time I tested?

You may go to www.sbec.state.tx.us and change any profile information.  At time of test, you must present ID with the same name as appears on your registration.

The ETS website says my information is incorrect, what is wrong?

Your SBEC online profile information on www.sbec.state.tx.us must match the information on www.texes.ets.org.

How can I change my test date?

You may go online to your ETS account to change your test registration, go to www.texes.ets.org or call 1-800-205-2626. There will be a fee of $15 during the regular or late registration period and $75 during the emergency registration period.

The ETS website does not show the test I want to take, what should I do?

You will need to request permission to test for each test you take.

How can I take additional tests for certification?

Once your initial certification has been posted to the SBEC website, you may go to your account at www.texes.ets.org  and "edit your profile" to "cert by exam". You may then register for additional certification tests.

Where do I get an Admission ticket?

Your Admission Ticket is available in your ETS account.  ETS does not regularly mail tickets.  You should return to your account at www.texes.ets.org and print your admission ticket 24 hours before your test.  Check for any changes (test site or time) in registration.

Where can I obtain study guides for a TExES/ExCET exam?

Preparation manuals are available at www.texes.ets.org.

How do I find out my score?

You may access your score through your account with ETS at www.texes.ets.org. Test scores for the paper based administration will be posted approximately three weeks after the test date. Test Scores for CAT will be posted in your account approximately 7 days after your actual test date.

I did not pass my test, what do I do now?

You may register to take the same test again.  Go to your account at www.texes.ets.org to register.

*If your initial attempt to pass a content area test as a post-baccalaureate candidate was not successful you will need to contact Robert Nottingham (903-886-5671) in the Certification Office.

Can you tell me how my test was scored?

Your score for the ExCET tests are based on the number of questions that you answered correctly and are reported on a scale of 0-100. The minimum passing score is a scaled score of 70. Scores for the TExES tests are based on the number of questions you answered correctly and reported on a scale of 100-300 with a minimum passing score of 240.

How many questions are on the TExES/ExCET tests?

The number of questions varies from test to test. There are two basic categories of tests: full-session tests and half-session tests. The number of multiple-choice items on full-session tests ranges from 170-225 questions. The number of multiple-choice items on half-session tests is approximately 70-100 questions. Certain tests may also have an essay or performance assessment component. See the individual test preparation manuals for more details.
